Seminar on Introduction of ATMEA and Nuclear Reactor ATMEA1

On 19 September 2008, the Seminar on Introduction of ATMEA and Nuclear Reactor ATMEA1, co-organized by the ATMEA S.A.S ATMEA, a joint venture by AREVA (France) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan) - two of the world’s leading nuclear suppliers, and the Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC) was held in Hanoi.

The ATMEA’s delegation led by Mr. Stefan vom Scheidt, Chairman and CEO of ATMEA, together with Mr. Makoto Kanda of MHI as Deputy CEO and other experts have been to Hanoi this time for holding the Seminar, which focused on the introduction of ATMEA, its expertise and its most important product - ATMEA1- a 1,100 MWe Generation III+ pressurized water reactor (PWR) that brings together innovative and proven nuclear technologies from both AREVA and MHI.

More than 70 Vietnamese participants from various nuclear related organizations/institutions such as the Office of Central Communist Party, Government Office, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Security, VAEC, VARANS, EVN, IE have participated in the Seminar.

Dr. Vuong Huu Tan, Chairman of the VAEC, has delivered the opening remark, welcoming the distinguished experts from the ATMEA and the participants and making some introduction on the status of nuclear energy development program in Vietnam.

On this occasion, the ATMEA Delegation also paid courtesy call on Prof. Dr. Dang Vu Minh, Chairman of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee of the National Assembly. The ATMEA delegation were also received by the leaders of both MOIT and the MOST.

The ATMEA delegation paid an official visit to the VAEC on 17 Sep. 2008. Chairman of the VAEC, Prof. Vuong Huu Tan and other VAEC’s representatives warmly welcomed the delegation at the VAEC’s headquarter. Both sides discussed the advantageous of the ATMEA1 and hope to establish mutual cooperation in the future.
